Regardless of the season, the needs of our Recipients remain constant and the challenge to meet those needs is a year-round effort. With that in mind, we are proud to share our latest accomplishments and plans for the future: Our Spring Event, which was held at Cold Spring Country Club on April 29th, was a great success! The baseball-themed brunch was fun for all, and—most importantly—raised funds that will go directly to helping those who need it most.   Our program at Huntington Hills Nursing Home is helping those residents with no assets or family support. We are providing extra monies each month so residents can afford small items such as a pillow or a haircut. Thank you to Doreen Ottaiano for helping make the program possible and helping us bring joy to these Recipients. We are moving forward to expand this innovative program to additional facilities.   Thank you to Board Member Rabbi Susie Moskowitz for securing the donation of 1,400 pairs of leggings from 18 Rocks, LLC of Melville. This generous donation has enabled us to send many pairs of leggings to all our children, as well as many adult recipients.   Thank you to the students of Roslyn High School, who donated $1,200 over the last three months of the school year for The Lend A Hand Project. Clubs that have participated include the Roslyn Honor Society, the Art Club, and the Students For Social Responsibility Club. We look forward to a continued relationship when the new school year kicks off!   LAHP has partnered with the Senior Dreams Come True charitable division of the Genser Dubow Elder Law firm. As a result of their generosity, we will be providing special assistance to many of our senior Recipients, and for a few of them, we hope to make a summer wish come true. We would like to thank I. J. Morris and Gutterman’s Funeral Homes for their continuing corporate support.   Performer Risa Finkel provided several delightful April evenings at Cabaret Under Glass. She chose The Lend A Hand Project as one of her charitable recipients. Thank you to Risa and Dr. Noah Finkel for your very generous gift.   Once again in May, Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza in Woodbury donated 20% of restaurant receipts from those customers who mentioned our group. To date, Anthony’s—thanks to manager Phil DiNatale—has raised nearly $1,000. The Indian Hills Ladies Golf Outing was dedicated to The Lend A Hand Project and provided us significant financial support, as well as having several new Sponsors joining our program. Thank you to Susan Hirschfeld Mohr for nominating us, and thanks to Ellen Acosta, Helen Rock, and Andy Levy for being at the luncheon to promote LAHP. This outing raised over $3,000 for The Lend A Hand Project. Special thanks to all the Indian Hills Ladies Golfers who participated in this event.   No effort is too small. Ten year old Lily initiated the “Slime Project.” Along with her friend, Zoe, she “manufactured” and sold her artisan slime to friends and donated 100% of her sales to further assist our recipients. Kudos to Lily and Zoe!   We welcome our new Sponsors and thank them for choosing our program. The need for new Sponsors continues to grow as more organizations recognize the unique difference we make in the lives of our Recipients. Currently we have 15 individuals and families waiting to be matched. The impact that you can make on an individual or family is best said by Charles, one of our Recipients: “OMG, thank you for being in my life, I need you so much.” Please contact Case Manager Ellen Acosta or Executive Director Andrew Levy at 631-486-6636 for more information. Have a wonderful and safe summer! We still have a few LAHP hats available for $10.00 each – if you are interested, please call the office.

In addition to raising much-needed funds, we were able to add six new Sponsor families! Thank you to everyone who attended and supported this great event! We welcome our newest corporate Sponsor, I.J. Morris Funeral Home. In the past months our Speakers Bureau has reached out to several community fraternal organizations. We have had the opportunity to present The Lend A Hand Project to Rotary, Lions, and Kiwanis chapters and have received a warm response to our Sponsor–Recipient program. Presently, two families are being sponsored by a member of the Babylon Rotary as a direct result of our presence at their meeting. Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza in Woodbury generously invited us to participate in their charitable gift program this past May. During the five Tuesdays in the month, 20% of the receipts of patrons who identified themselves as supporters of our organization were donated to us. Many thanks to General Manager Phil DiNatale, as well as Ron and Paula Jasser for making this happen. Watch your future e-mails – we will be doing this again! The value of The Lend A Hand Project is confirmed by the increasing number of referrals from other social service agencies and professionals. This, of course, necessitates an increasing need for new Sponsors. If you are a Sponsor, please tell your family, friends, and colleagues about our program, and perhaps even consider sponsoring an additional individual or family yourself. Our case manager, Ellen Acosta, looks forward to hearing from you. She can be reached by e-mail at [email protected] or by phone at 631-486-6636 ext 1. Remember, if you are an Amazon shopper, be sure to go to Smile.Amazon.com for all your online shopping and specify The Lend A Hand Project as your charity to support. It costs you nothing and the donation from Amazon really adds up. Please encourage your friends and family to do it as well! If you have any questions about getting started, contact our Executive Director, Andy Levy, at [email protected] . Finally, at the end of the day, comments like this one from one of our Recipients remind us why The Lend A Hand Project is so important: “As we were walking home, my eight-year-old son Jonathan said, ‘Mommy how lucky we are to have (The Lend A Hand Project) in our lives because it allows us to have simple little things like ice cream, which all my friends always get to have’.”

    • Community service organizations and professionals continue to reach out to us with referrals for the growing number of needy on Long Island. We need more sponsors. Please spread the word, as we are always looking for new Sponsors!

The Lend A Hand Project is dedicated to helping needy families on Long Island. We need YOUR help to meet our goals.

Happenings Fall 2016 http://www.lendahandproject.org/happenings-fall-2016/ Tue, 03 Jan 2017 21:41:26 +0000 http://www.lendahandproject.org/?p=419 As the year comes to an end, The Lend A Hand Project continues to expand our efforts to improve the lives of our Recipients. As one Recipient recently wrote, “I am so blessed to have you, I can’t say thank you enough for being in my life.” Here are some updates we think will interest you: Thanks to all of you, we have just completed our most successful “Uninvitation” initiative to date. Your generosity enabled us to purchase gift cards for all of our Recipients, ensuring that each person in our program had a plentiful Thanksgiving celebration. This year we sent out 30% more dollars in gift cards than ever before. The Lend A Hand Project teamed up with UJA and its “Families Helping Families—Thanksgiving Mitzvah Project,”and delivered food packages to more than 50 of our needy families. We are proud to welcome the Bethrock USY chapter from Roslyn to our family of sponsors. Talia, their student V.P. of Social Action connected with our Case Manager, Ellen Acosta, and the group is now sponsoring three Recipient families. We are also very pleased to welcome the Half Hollow Hills High School East Honor Society to our list of sponsors. Harriet Harris has been working with the students to sponsor several Recipient families. Several of our Synagogue Partners will be holding holiday gift drives, enabling us to provide the 266 children in our program with much needed toys and gift cards for the holidays. We welcome our newest corporate partner, Guttermans Inc, and thank them for their generous contribution. Star of David Chapels has also recently joined us. Tsunis Gasparis, LLP has also joined LAHP as a corporate sponsor. Through the sponsorship of Executive Board Member Gail Jospa, The Lend A Hand Project has become a member of the Hauppauge Industrial Association (HIA). Several Board members attended the HIA’s annual Expo and were able to meet and disseminate information about our organization to more than 40 companies and charities. We once again remind you to join smile.amazon.com. Once you do, The Lend A Hand Project will receive one-half percent of every eligible purchase. There is no cost to you! Our list of needy Recipients continues to grow as community service agencies refer more families and individuals. If you know anyone who might be interested in becoming a sponsor, please have them reach out to Ellen Acosta at 631-486-6636 or [email protected]. If you are already a Sponsor, please remember your Recipient family for the upcoming holidays. Gift cards may be purchased through The Lend A Hand Project office. If you are not already a Sponsor, consider one of our Recipient families before the holidays. Finally, SAVE THE DATE—April 30, 2017—for The Lend A Hand Project’s annual Spring Fundraiser. This year the event will once again be held at the Cold Spring Country Club. More info to come in the coming months.

Our 2016 Spring Event Was a Success! http://www.lendahandproject.org/2016-spring-event-success/ Fri, 24 Jun 2016 18:46:33 +0000 http://www.lendahandproject.org/?p=336 We did it again! Thanks to all of you, the 2016 Lend A Hand Project’s spring event—which had the theme of ‘Family’—was a great success. The two families that were our honorees have been enthusiastic supporters of our organization since its inception. The collective energy and initiative of both the Hirschfelds and Novitz/Robins families has helped to enable us to fulfill our mission. The lively event, held at Cold Spring Country Club, included attractive décor, fun raffle and auction prizes and a delicious brunch. More importantly, we were able to effectively spread the message of our Sponsorship Program. We thank our current Sponsors and all of our new ones as well. While the theme of our spring event this year was ‘family,’ the concept of family is not limited to just one day. The Lend A Hand Project is built upon the concept of families helping families, and we will continue to strive to fulfill our mission. If you have friends, or family members, who might be interested in finding out more about The Lend A Hand family, we encourage you to have them contact our offices.
